Sobre el club

Polideportivo Fernando Hierro, also listed as Polideportivo Fernando Ruiz Hierro, is a large municipal sports complex in Vélez-Málaga on the Costa del Sol. Alongside football, athletics and tennis, it is one of the main public places to play padel in Vélez-Málaga. The Ayuntamiento lists four glass padel courts for hire, used for casual play, federated club and school training, and local padel championships. The wider complex has a stated capacity of about 3,500 and supports municipal sports programmes, association events and public court rental through the Concejalía de Deportes.

Instalaciones

Padel at Polideportivo Fernando Hierro centres on four glass (cristal) padel courts within a multi-sport municipal ground. The same site has four tennis courts, a natural-grass football and rugby pitch with an athletics track, synthetic 11-a-side and 7-a-side football pitches, four multi-sport courts for futsal and handball, and two basketball or volleyball courts. Changing rooms are provided in two blocks for the football and athletics areas and six for the court zones, plus three storage rooms. Public padel sits alongside these other outdoor and multi-use facilities rather than in a dedicated private club hall.

Membresía y reservas

Court hire is handled as public municipal rental rather than a private membership club. Players can book padel through the Ayuntamiento de Vélez-Málaga sports booking points, including Casa del Deporte and other municipal sports desks, or ask on site for immediate use when a court is free. Monthly advance bookings open on the 29th of each month, with a limit of four hire hours per day for the same person. A ticket must be shown to the site attendant. Changes are allowed up to 24 hours ahead, and rain-related rebooking follows the municipal hire rules. Private coaching, ball carts and unofficial tournaments need prior authorisation from the Concejalía de Deportes. Booking details and regulations are published on deportes.velezmalaga.es.

Preguntas frecuentes

Bueno saber

Demand for padel in Vélez-Málaga has grown enough that the local council has announced a PFEA 2025 investment of over 330,000 euros that includes three new padel courts at Polideportivo Fernando Hierro, with surrounding seating and enclosure works, one court planned as a panoramic layout with a stand. That expansion is in addition to the four glass courts already listed on the official facilities page. The complex also hosts local padel competitions and municipal sports events. Recent visitor feedback has noted uneven surface condition on some courts, so checking current court status when booking is sensible while upgrades are underway.

Padel courts are in a state of disrepair. Some are missing sections of flooring, others have holes. You can't play on any of the courts. The one that's a little better is number 14, but it's also in bad shape. The rest aren't worth mentioning. The complex itself is quite good, but the padel courts are completely neglected.

The people who work here have no respect for anyone and are rude when it comes to the job they're supposed to do, which is riding bikes around the grounds, keeping an eye on people. A tree is friendlier than these people.
