Carcavelos Ténis e Padel is one of the Lisbon coast's established racket clubs, on Rua Pedro Álvares Cabral beside the Cascais train line and a short walk from Carcavelos beach. Founded in the mid-1980s as a tennis-only club, it rebranded and expanded as padel demand grew in Portugal, culminating in a major renovation that reopened in May 2024 with seven padel courts, nine tennis courts and a new fitness lab spread across more than a hectare. The padel block now mixes five covered courts with two newer outdoor lanes, giving year-round options when Atlantic wind or rain hits the uncovered pair. The club runs as both a competitive school and a social hub: summer camps for children, group and private coaching, family events and a bistro overlooking the courts where parents work on laptops while kids train. Playtomic and AirCourts handle online booking alongside reception. Google reviews praise modern facilities, caring coaches and the café Wi-Fi; membership contracts are strict on refunds if you leave early, so read terms before committing to the mandatory annual fee on top of monthly play.
Facilities
Court hire through Playtomic (playtomic.com/clubs/carcavelos-tenis-padel), the legacy AirCourts portal, or by phone on +351 21 456 3668. NiT reported padel court hire around twenty euros per hour and tennis from eleven euros after the renovation; third-party directories show wider ranges of sixteen to fifty euros depending on slot and court type. Membership typically combines a monthly subscription with a mandatory annual membership fee—reviewers cite roughly two hundred ten euros combined for early months, with no refund policy on early termination. Padel sessions often run ninety minutes through partner platforms such as Urban Sports Club. Group lessons, private coaching and summer camps book through the club school. Email comunicacao@carcavelos-tenis.com for academy and membership enquiries. Urban Sports Club members book via AirCourts with twelve-hour cancellation notice.

Once they get your money, you stop mattering My husband and I decided to join this tennis club in Portugal. The conditions were the following: in order to play, you not only have to pay a monthly fee, but also a mandatory annual membership. For the first month, we tried it out with just the monthly fee, but starting from the second month we paid both the monthly subscription and the one-year membership — which in total came to around €210. And to be clear: without paying this membership, it’s not even possible to play. However, just two month after paying, we found out that we were forced to leave the country due to job changes. On top of that, we also learned that we wouldn’t be able to obtain Portuguese residency for at least another five months. These, in our view, are more than valid reasons to at least open a discussion about a partial refund. Essentially, we paid for 12 months but only used 2 — less than 20% of the time. What happened next was even more disappointing. For two weeks, we reached out to the club several times, trying to get an answer. The only responses we got were vague and standard phrases like “we will check and get back to you.” Then — silence. Whenever we followed up, the cycle repeated: “Oh, what is your problem again? We’ll look into it.” Three weeks of this, without a single concrete reply. Finally, when we had no choice but to insist more firmly, the only response we received was: “We cannot refund your money.” Full stop. Yes, there is indeed a clause in the contract that says if you want to terminate earlier, no refund will be given. Legally, the club may be covered. But from a human and customer-service perspective, the attitude was absolutely appalling. Zero customer care, zero flexibility. Any private company that truly values its clients and reputation could have found a way to offer at least a partial refund, especially when 90% of the paid period won’t be used. Instead, the approach here is simple: once they have your money, the rest is not their problem. At this point, we are no longer concerned about the money itself, but I do feel it’s important to emphasize the terrible way this club deals with clients and their problems. If you care not only about the facilities, but also about how you will be treated when an issue arises — think twice before joining this club.
Great atmosphere here at this club and mostly new facilities recently upgraded. Friendly staff and coaches.
Good facilities and lunch options. Close to the beach
