Polideportivo playa paraíso, listed officially as Complejo Deportivo Playa Paraíso, is a municipal sports complex in the Urb. Playa Paraíso area of Cartagena, in the Region of Murcia. It sits near Playa Honda and the Mar Menor coast and is run under the Concejalía de Deportes of the Ayuntamiento de Cartagena. Alongside its artificial-grass football pitch, the complex specifically offers padel courts as part of its outdoor sports offer, so local players and visitors looking for padel in Playa Paraíso or La Manga’s hinterland can use a public venue rather than a private club alone. The facility serves the residential neighbourhood around Calle Himilce and is aimed at everyday community sport rather than a boutique padel-only club. Because it is a municipal installation, access and court hire sit within Cartagena’s public sports network, with contact handled through the complex’s own email and the city sports department.

Facilities

Polideportivo playa paraíso operates as a municipal sports complex, not a private membership padel club. Court and space hire for Cartagena’s public sports network is organised through the Concejalía de Deportes booking channels, including the city’s online “Alquiler de Pistas” / Actividades system linked from deportes.cartagena.es (deportescartagena.deporsite.net). Public activity prices for Cartagena sports venues are published by the Ayuntamiento under “Precios Públicos”; the published sheet reviewed for this research covers many municipal centres and class programmes but does not itemise a separate padel rental tariff specifically for Playa Paraíso. For padel bookings, membership-style passes, or casual hire at this site, the practical route is to contact the complex directly or use the municipal reservation tools rather than assuming private club packages.

This sports complex serves a vital purpose in the area, but it suffers from a lack of maintenance and shows its age, becoming outdated in both equipment and facilities. The mosquito problem is unbearable; they practically eat you alive while you're training. Getting a hot shower remains an ordeal. If a part of the boiler isn't broken, the plumber is away on business, or they simply can't get the temperature right. It doesn't matter how many times you complain at reception, or who you tell. Another issue they should avoid is mopping the facilities when they're open to the public. For example, there have been falls in the rooms with wooden floors because they were wet. Furthermore, there are elderly users for whom a fall could lead to serious injuries.

The artificial turf soccer field is rising, has potholes, and gaps between sections of the floor where the concrete is visible. The strange thing is that no one has been seriously injured there. Besides, I don't understand why it hasn't been replaced, given that it's so close to the Mar Menor and the same turf contains microplastics, which are so harmful to the environment. I think it would even be punishable. If I were in charge of this at Cartagena City Hall, I'd be ashamed, but hey, politicians don't have that kind of thing. UNTIL WHEN?

Great gym for a two-week holiday. I've been here twice now. €20 for two weeks is more than fair. Padel is €10 per hour. Unfortunately, there are a few mosquitoes now and then, but that's to be expected…
