Membership & Pricing

Bishop’s Stortford Community Sports Club is a long-established multi-sport and social venue on Cricketfield Lane in Bishop’s Stortford, East Hertfordshire, where sport has been played since 1825. Today it brings together cricket, tennis, squash, racketball and padel under one umbrella, with more than 2,500 members across its sporting clubs and a busy social membership centred on the Charles Edwards Pavilion. Padel is offered through Bishop’s Stortford Lawn Tennis & Padel Club on the same site. Two canopy-covered padel courts opened in February 2024, giving players a dedicated place to book and play year-round alongside the club’s wider racket sports programme. The pavilion bar is a social hub for members, with live sport on large screens and a real-ale offering that has earned CAMRA club awards for the Herts/Essex Borders region and East Anglia.

Facilities

Padel court bookings and padel memberships are arranged through the Matchi app linked from the Bishop’s Stortford Lawn Tennis & Padel Club website. Coaching is also available, including a 45-minute introductory padel session booked via ClubSpark. Racket hire is £2.50 per racket and balls cost £5 per tube; players should email administration@bsltc.co.uk at least 48 hours ahead to arrange collection, as there is no reception desk. The wider Bishop’s Stortford Community Sports Club offers sporting and social membership. Social members use the pavilion bar and can apply for a Privilege Card for a 10% discount on bar purchases, managed through the ClubV1 Members Hub and app. Tennis membership is separate and handled via the tennis club’s own membership routes (including GoCardless for annual payments). For padel-specific enquiries, contact the tennis club administration email listed on the padel booking pages.

I have been a member of the club for 12 years and find it a very welcoming club with really good facilities. There is a wide range of opportunities with coaching for all age and abilities including non-members. They have been improving and upgrading the facilities over the past 6 years with a bubble, 2 new artificial clay courts and the current installation of 2 Padel courts. There's also access to a bar with a lovely view over the cricket pitches, which is very popular during the warmer summer months and has a real buzz at the weekends.

Fantastic venue for a beer on a sunny afternoon. Great choice of ales & friendly bar staff

Go here very often, it has the cricket field, tennis courts and squash courts. The drinks are pretty cheap and you buy via a membership card which you just top up. Staff are always friendly and chatty. It’s really nice in the summer when they get the outside tables out. They sometimes also have a food van outside but this is rare so that’s why I’ve only put 4 stars.
