The University of Cambridge Sports Centre at Cambridge West (Philippa Fawcett Drive, CB3 0AS) added two outdoor panoramic padel courts open to the public as well as students and Cambridge Sport members. Courts sit next to the main sports centre — gym, squash, sports hall, café — so you can combine padel with other facilities. Book one-hour slots from 7am–10pm via the Cam Uni Sport app. Racket hire is included in court fees; balls are sold at reception. Learn-to-padel sessions, Monday open padel nights, improve-your-padel coaching, WhatsApp ability groups, and a social league (from Oct 2025) support newcomers and regulars. Part of the Cambridge West / Eddington community — keep noise considerate for neighbours.
Facilities
Open to everyone pay-and-play. Non-members £36/hour (7-day advance booking). Cambridge Sport or Padel members £28/hour (14-day advance). Padel courts are great here and the coaching staff are excellent. The coffee is good in the cafe, but not so sure about the food options. The gym looks amazing and I’d like to try the other sports like squash at the club. I’d highly recommend it.
Very nice squash courts, and a great setting for The Cambridgeshire Closed County Squash Championships. My only dislike, was the lack of a decent staggered viewing area. There wasn't many spectators, but the few there were, had a job to all fit behind the finals court because the viewing area was only 1 step high.
Reduced opening hours for weeks on end and not so much as an email informing paying members. If you need constant access I’d prioritise a gym not linked to the university.
It's OK. If you time it right you can use the gym. If you want to go at 5pm you will struggle to use a machine or find a spot to work out on a mat, also the classes are fully booked almost immediately and there are not enough across the week. It's easier to get booked in last minute when people start to drop out.
I wish I could do half stars. It’s really a 4.5 star review. A half star off because while the hours are generous, access when unmanned would be amazing. I also (personally) would prefer the techno gym spin style bikes instead of the upright stationary bikes. Overall a really lovely gym! Lots of equipment - tread, rowers, recumbent bike, stationary bikes, high resistance wattbikes - a room of squat racks and lots of weight machines and dumbbells in the cardio room.
