Membership & Pricing

Centre Court Padel is a purpose-built outdoor club at Ruskin Drive Sports Village in St Helens (WA10 6RP), opened summer 2025 by Ruskin owner Jimmy Woodyer and partner Ben Jackson on former bowling-green land. Five floodlit courts, a lounge bar/café and changing rooms make it one of Merseyside's larger dedicated padel sites by court count. The pitch is community-led: beginner coaching, socials, leagues and outreach to schools, women and disabled groups. Bookings run through Playtomic at typical UK rates (~£36/hour). Soul Padel's covered courts sit a short walk away at Queens Park, so St Helens players often choose between outdoor scale here and covered play nearby.

Facilities

Pay-and-play via Playtomic — no membership required for casual hire. Coaching sessions and courses for beginners through competitive players. Club leagues, social mix-ins and community tournaments. WhatsApp community for partners and updates. Schools outreach and women's/disabled group programmes in development since launch.

The quality of the offering is surprisingly poor considering the direct competitor, Soul Padel, being just a 5 minute walk around the corner. I think this is reflected in the vast difference in availability between the two places when trying to book. I’ve visited Centre Court Padel twice now. The first time was when it was fairly new, we showed up, paid for our balls, were handed our free hire rackets and were on our way. This visit was fine, but was slightly overshadowed by the fact that we were unable to play for the first 20 minutes of our booking due to a staff member being nowhere to be found. After this, we were told that we’d be contacted by a manager the following week for a partial refund - the least they could do when charging a substantial, but admittedly standard compared to other Padel places, amount of money (£36 per hour). We were never contacted, and tried chasing up a couple of times before giving up. Recently, months after our first visit, we revisited for another session, admittedly due to Soul Padel around the corner having no availability on our desired day. This time around we were greeted with an unexpected £10 charge for 4 hire rackets. We didn’t anticipate this, as we didn’t have to pay for these on our previous visit, this takes us up to £46 all-in for the hour. At least this time we were straight onto the court, after walking past a lovely dead pigeon in between the courts, really adding to the luxury price point. We were then asked to leave swiftly after our hour whilst mid-game, whilst 3 of the other 4 courts were empty, and clearly nobody was waiting for us to free up the court for their booking. I don’t think I’ll be visiting a third time. In terms of general padel, it’s fine if you have your own equipment. For newbies like us, the quality of the courts/floor was fine. I really hope they can turn it around into something more competitive with Soul Padel around the corner, I think substantial investment has gone into this place, and I’d hate to see it go to waste. For the prices they’re charging, they can definitely provide a better end product in my opinion!

The courts at St Helens Centre Court are in poor condition – very bumpy with inconsistent dead bounces, even with a fresh box of balls. The playing area is extremely tight, so every ball that goes over the fence requires you to leave the grounds to collect it. Retrieving balls mid-game is a nightmare and completely kills any flow so forget about playing tap-outs shots The facilities are equally disappointing. The fridge in the shop only has basic fizzy cans of pop, with no proper selection of drinks compared to other clubs in the area. Honestly, this is the worst padel venue I’ve tried locally. I only play here when I’m truly desperate and nowhere else is available… and I regret it every single time. Would not recommend.

I have to give it 1 star as the courts are just dreadful. The playing surface is uneven with noticeable bumps and dips all over the court. They also have no space outside the courts to allow oit of court smashes, as the ball subsequently goes over the external fence around the courts. This then means leaving the padel centre to get your ball. Its a shame as the area was clean and tidy with some on site facilities. The courts really need some work! We wont be coming back ehich is a shame as they do have numerous padel coaching sessions and courses available. I just refuse to pay for a mediocre playing surface.

Booked a lesson, coach cancelled it and never got a refund, so won't be booking here again!

Nice place, price is about the standard price. Issue that lets it down is the quality of the playing surfaces. With a small amount of rain the courts play very poorly. Aside from the rain the playing surfaces aren’t perfect, quite uneven and a lot of dead spots. Believe they are going to be replacing the surfaces soon so I am really looking forward to that.
