Padelwerk Messe Basel occupies the second floor of Messe Halle 2 at Messeplatz 10 — enter under the famous exhibition-centre clock, take the lift beside the Bambusnest to level 2.2, and you reach the chain's largest hall layout: six padel singles courts (sponsor names like Ricola, Euroairport and Kellerhals Carrard on Playtomic), plus three pickleball and four badminton courts on the same deck. The site runs as a self-service Padelwerk: book on Playtomic or padelwerk.ch, receive a four-digit door code by email, and play without on-site staff. Operation is seasonal from July through May while the messe calendar allows. Coaches Gonzalo Sanchez, Marco Gonçalves and Javier Gomez offer private lessons in several languages. Google ratings sit low (2.4) — recent reviews flag access-code glitches, mandatory paid racket hire, dust from co-located beach-volleyball sand, a cold hall and slippery metal panels near court entries.
Facilities
Padel singles courts from CHF 28/h before 16:00, CHF 32/h from 16:00 and weekends; 90-minute slots CHF 42 / CHF 48. Pickleball and badminton share the same singles-court tariff. Book via Playtomic or padelwerk.ch. Network memberships: Gold CHF 900/year (up to 90 min daily play at any Padelwerk site, all sports); Silver CHF 400/year (weekdays 05:00–16:00 only). School groups from CHF 10/h on singles courts before 16:00. Racket and ball costs extra at Tankr station. Corporate block bookings on enquiry. Phone +41 79 598 20 20.

The initial experience was poor. The access system did not function as advertised: the entry code that was supposed to be included in the booking confirmation email never arrived. We then had to make three phone calls before finally being provided with a valid access code. Upon arrival, we encountered a second locked door requiring another code, and the same process had to be repeated. Once inside, the courts and facilities themselves are of good quality. However, there are several shortcomings. Racket hire is mandatory and charged, whereas many comparable venues provide rackets free of charge. In addition, there was only a very limited supply of balls available. The most serious issue is safety. Polished aluminium sheets have been installed near the court entry and exit areas. These surfaces are extremely slippery. One player slipped while attempting to retrieve a ball during a match, sliding across the concrete floor. This presents a clear and unacceptable safety risk that should be addressed urgently
Dust and sand everywhere - who thought, that adding multiple volleyball courts to an indoor facility would be a good idea?
Having to pay for simple playing equipment is ridiculous, go to Allschwil or Dreispitz instead, there you don’t have to pay for a racket or balls, staff are very disrespectful.
We were really surprised that the rackets were no longer included in the price and that we now had to buy the balls. This wasn't really mentioned in the email. To be honest, the court wasn't in great condition either, and the ball bounced very strangely due to the unevenness. But what bothered us most was the extreme amount of dust throughout the entire hall, which must have come from the beach volleyball courts or something else. It was extremely irritating to our eyes and noses while playing.
Unfortunately, the hall did not meet our expectations. The storage and playing areas were very cold, forcing us to wear jackets. Furthermore, the cleanliness was inadequate. It wasn't clear online that there was an additional charge for the padel set and balls—we had to pay extra, which was an unpleasant surprise. Overall, disappointing, especially for beginners or visitors who expect clear information.
