Membership & Pricing
Riverside Sports & Leisure Club in Gloucester is a family-run gym and leisure centre on St Oswalds Road, between the River Severn and Archdeacon Meadow, with four outdoor padel courts as part of a wider racquet offer. It is not a padel-only venue: members also get a 20m pool, sauna and steam, multiple gym rooms, Reformer Pilates, classes, squash, floodlit tennis, a crèche, free parking, and the Roastery café on site. Padel has clearly grown here — coaching from The Padel Playbook is listed midweek, and the club promotes members and non-members booking through the Riverside app. Court hire for members is cheap compared with dedicated padel clubs (£4 per court), which helps explain why reviews mention a growing padel community. Expect a busy leisure-club atmosphere rather than a boutique padel house, with reception check-in and QR scan for court access.
Facilities
Club membership covers the gym, pool, classes, and cheap padel. Peak is £47.99 a month for full opening-hours access; off-peak is £38.99 (weekdays before 4:30pm, weekends unrestricted); students from 16 with ID are £26.99; juniors 2–15 are £16.99 with adult accompaniment and earlier weekday cut-offs. A joining fee (often £20, sometimes waived in sales) may apply. Padel for members is £4 per court for an hour — roughly £1 each if four play. Members can bring guests at £5 per guest on the dedicated padel booking page. Non-members pay £28 per court flat (pay-as-you-go, non-refundable) or buy bulk credits in the app. Member cancellations more than 24 hours ahead are free; within 24 hours the £4 still applies unless the court is rebooked. Weather washouts are credited for use within 12 months rather than refunded in cash.

I have been going to this gym for almost a year now. The men's lockers have been recently refurbished and there are plenty of rooms where to train. Compared to others where I have been, there is hardly no waiting to use the equipment. This gym has sauna, steam room and pool which I found super useful. The parking outside is free, unrestricted and big. Apart from one day where external people were also using the car park, I have never seen it totally full. The gym also benefited recently from new equipment. The only reason why I don't give 5 stars is because I would like to see trainers around, supporting gym users, as they may have questions about how to use equipment, especially the new equipment placed, or ask the odd question of how to perform correctly certain exercises (not referring to PTs for exclusive and focused support), but the staff is mainly behind the front desk by the entrance, working as receptionists. Cleaning staff is always around and I noticed improvement on that level. Cleaning stations are also replenished periodically and there are drinking stations. Maintenance seems to be very responsive to fix general issues. I have noticed in other gyms how PTs are frequently around to make themselves known to users, and that normally makes them establish a trusted relationship and get clients, but in this gym, I hardly see them. Maybe they are around at some other time of the day when I don't train?... I think that is the reason why I never attended a single class, as I have never seen the people running it. Other gyms also have periodic challenges, charity initiatives, events and so on, so there is higher engagement with gym users, which is great for marketing, to build gym brand preference, and to attract younger audiences, but it doesn't happen much here either. The charges: I used to go to the so called "budget friendly low cost gyms". I realised I ended up waiting more time to use the equipment rather than using it. I dealt with people on their phones taking selfies for social media, overcrowded spaces, noise, crowded lockers, groups of users reserving equipment and spending time around them, preventing others from using it, while chatting about their last weekend. Here you pay a bit more, but you feel relaxed and you enjoy the session, without the urge to argue with someone 😉 Overall, big gym area, plenty of different rooms to train, good equipment, good shower facilities, big car parking, friendly staff. Extra points for child care service (you can take your children and leave them in a room while you are training, for a price. Not sure if it is still working) and for a big cafe area, where I used to work with my laptop when waiting to go to meetings in town center. Very happy and I will continue going.
Absolutely my favourite gym despite my uni one being common wealth games worthy! Staff are always lovely and greet you with a smile upon entrance, especially Luka. The class timetable is well set out with a great range of classes. Instructors are welcoming and provide a great atmosphere during these. The semi frequent refurbishments help keep the leisure centre modern and comfortable for members - especially the new addition of shower stalls in the men’s changing rooms! The woman’s changing rooms are only ever busy Saturday morning for a few hours and I’ve personally never had a problem finding a shower as there’s 6 stalls available. Overall - great gym and great management so would definitely recommend 😊
Had an absolute BLAST at Simon’s new spin class at Riverside this morning. Brilliant music, amazing energy and a lot of laughs & singing. Would highly recommend his classes to anyone regardless of spin experience!
Excellent gym with great facilities. Ticks all the boxes for everything I need. Been a member of lots of gyms over the last 15 years, this has been the best for me. The staff here (of all roles) are very friendly and approachable. The equipment is in good nick. Padel is really taking off here and creating a great community. Well priced and worth the money for me. Thanks Louise and team.
Banger gym – equipment is top notch, and the pool and sauna are lush and rarely packed. 50% off for students, so an absolute bargain. What more could you ask for, you say? Well… the showers. Think less “refreshing rinse” and more accidental eye contact and existential dread — No curtains, no privacy—just you, your soap, and a row of equally awkward strangers. Worth it nevertheless if you're after the gains and the lanes.
