Membership & Pricing

David Lloyd Cardiff sits on Ipswich Road in Roath, tucked beside the Howardian Nature Reserve and only a few minutes from the city centre. It is a full family health club rather than a standalone padel venue: gym floor overlooking the indoor pool, indoor and outdoor swimming, spa recovery rooms, tennis halls, and a Clubroom for coffee after a session. For padel players the draw is five outdoor courts booked through the David Lloyd app, with court time included on Platinum membership. Reviewers often single out the padel courts and tennis setup as among the strongest parts of the club. Free on-site parking makes it straightforward to arrive for an evening doubles match or a weekend block of games.

Facilities

Padel court access at Cardiff is tied to Platinum membership, which unlocks full racquets sports. Other packages cover gym, pools and spa without racquets, so players who mainly want padel should check Platinum before joining. Members book outdoor padel courts through the David Lloyd app for doubles. New players can join padel welcome sessions on the timetable, then move into Matchplay and club sessions once they know the game. Tours and short-term membership trials are advertised on the club site for people who want to see the courts and wider facilities before committing.

I had the most wonderful experience with Carrie Richards who showed me around the club, explained everything in great detail and made me so comfortable as this was the first time entering the club. I thought David Lloyd’s was lovely and would definitely recommend. Thank you Carrie for helping me you really did help more than you know!! I’m now so excited to embark on my new fitness journey with David Lloyd’s.

I went to David Lloyd Cardiff for the first time recently with a friend who’s a member. He gave me a guest pass, and I’d always heard it was a premium gym, so I was curious to see what it was all about. Honestly, I left feeling a bit underwhelmed. The gym area itself isn’t that big. It feels a bit tight, especially when a few people are using machines or free weights. For the price members are paying, I expected a much larger space and a better range of equipment. It’s not awful, but it definitely doesn’t feel as high end as it claims to be. One thing I did really like was the tennis area. Both the indoor and outdoor courts are a great size and in really good condition. If you’re into tennis, that’s probably one of the best parts of the club. The pools were another highlight. Both the indoor and outdoor pools were very clean, with a nice relaxing atmosphere. The water was a good temperature and the overall setup felt calm and well maintained. But there’s only one jacuzzi, which honestly felt like a letdown. It was constantly full, and with the price of membership, I really expected there to be at least one more. It just doesn’t seem like enough for the number of people using the club. The steam room was actually really nice. It’s spacious, very clean, and has that relaxing eucalyptus scent, which gives it a proper spa vibe. That was one area where it really did feel like a premium experience. One thing that did annoy me though and felt a bit ridiculous was being charged two pounds for a towel as a guest. At a place like this, where membership isn’t cheap, you’d think something as basic as a towel would be included for guest passes. It just came off as unnecessarily stingy. On a more positive note, the changing rooms were spotless. Modern, clean, with good showers, plenty of lockers, and all the basics done right. No complaints there. Overall, it was a decent first visit and there were a few things I really liked, but I left feeling like the place doesn’t fully live up to the price tag. It has potential, but they could definitely improve on the gym space, add more facilities like a second jacuzzi, and maybe be a bit less tight with things like towels for guests.

David Lloyd Cardiff has great facilities overall, the staff are always friendly and helpful, and the padel courts are excellent. My main issue is the ventilation and air conditioning in the gym and changing rooms. Even when the club isn’t particularly busy, those areas often feel far too warm and stuffy, which makes training and recovering less comfortable than it should be for a premium gym. Aside from that, it’s a really good club and I do enjoy using it regularly. A big shout out to Ellie for helping me with a guest pass query.

Had a really great experience with Marc at David Lloyd Cardiff. He gave me a thorough tour, took the time to show my daughter around separately, and answered all my questions (and there were a lot!) with real care and attention. Super responsive and really helpful throughout – he’s even helped get my mum on board too. Thanks so much, Marc!

An excellent gym with great facilities and a vast array of classes to suit everyone. It has a lovely, friendly and relaxed atmosphere. The majority of instructors are outstanding. I particularly enjoy the Boxing fitness, Body Pump and Step classes. Lauren Kruydenburg in particularly is an outstanding instructor. She takes so many classes and always makes them fun, whilst naturally motivating you to push yourself to make real fitness gains.
