About
Abbeydale Tennis Club on Abbeydale Road South in Dore, Sheffield (S17 3LJ) is a long-running tennis club that now also hosts Play Padel Sheffield, the city’s first dedicated indoor padel centre. The padel operation opened in early 2025 with a high-profile launch involving England cricketer Joe Root and Rotherham United goalkeeper Cameron Dawson among the co-owners and guests. Tennis remains central—indoor air-dome courts and outdoor floodlit courts—but padel sits as a premium indoor destination on the same site, with its own café-bar, lounge, retail corner, and Playtomic booking brand. The shared campus gives players a familiar Sheffield club setting with modern padel kit next door.
Facilities
Play Padel Sheffield lists four state-of-the-art indoor panoramic courts on Playtomic: three doubles courts and one singles court. Press coverage at launch matches that inventory (three doubles plus a singles court) plus a lounge, retail area, and coffee bar with licensed drinks. Amenities confirmed on Playtomic include disabled access, equipment rental, free and private parking, a store, cafeteria and snack bar, changing rooms, lockers, and Wi‑Fi. The host tennis club separately advertises heated indoor tennis under an air dome and four floodlit outdoor tennis courts, so the overall Abbeydale site is a multi-racket campus rather than padel-only. Evening play is supported by long daily hours on the padel side.
Membership & Booking
Padel is pay-and-play: you can book without joining a tennis membership. Courts are reserved on Playtomic by searching Play Padel Sheffield; the standard booking window is 14 days, with PlayPadel+ membership at £10 per month unlocking a 21-day priority window and 20% off your portion of court bookings. Coaching appears on Playtomic as public and private classes (examples include intermediate group sessions and private lessons with named coaches). Socials, beginner tournaments, early coffee-club sessions, and leagues feature on the club’s Playtomic competitions board. Equipment rental covers players who arrive without a racket. Adult tennis memberships start from figures published on the tennis club site, but padel access is separate via Playtomic.
